New year. New habits. Another year of trying to be tidy. Another year of being told that little pieces of paper go in the trash can. This year feels different. We are scrambling to totally clear out the shop of all the things that have been piling up over the past years... It's been hard to figure out sometimes, what can stay and what can go and then suddenly I am looking at 20 years of memories all piled up. It's time to simplify and I am amazed how I can look at things differently within the space of a couple of days. With the help of Larry and the kids, we are clearing out and moving towards simplifying... and yes, putting the little pieces of paper into the trash can too :)

pocket change heads up

I am a jumper. It felt to me at the time that 'everyone' was doing the discount websites and sending out daily emails of great deals. I jumped in with both feet and joined in.There are so many good deals out there. Only for me, I feel like I am personally being buried in information and it is too much. I wonder if you feel the same? I believe many of you do. I am choosing to stop the madness and change my focus for both myself and for you.

For now, I plan on stopping the Pocket Change concept and instead focus on what I like to do and what I feel we do best. We will begin immediately, the release of a new Monday email, followed by a Thursday reminder. We will fill the email up with new products, our very own Pebbles in my Pocket product, seasonal creativity and kits that will inspire you to quickly & easily make AND we will surprise you with some GREAT deals too... just not everyday.

Happy Monday !

Today we are half way to Christmas. I could say that I am on top of everything, but truth be told, I've got nothing or at least feel like I am way behind. My to do list is growing, the days are counting down. Panic should be setting in, but instead we find ourselves listening to Christmas music, baking cookies and spending time together. Today we hung up our Peppermint Garland. It was so easy to make... just maybe 20 minutes start to finish with our kit. It makes our home feel like the holidays and is perfect for dangling at work and on your Christmas tree too. It looks perfect with our Holly Berry Garland too! Afterwards, to avoid tangling, wrap around a piece of cardboard to save and enjoy for many years to come.

vintage style spool ornament

Hi Friends-

The box arrived today. I know it sounds shallow, but my heart is skipping a beat... must be love! I ordered a few new trees for Pebbles this year. A traditional style, a woodsy style and a vintage style feather tree. The feather tree came today. I am in LOVE with the simpleness of the feather tree... The holiday season is in full swing here at Pebbles as we work on Thanksgiving and Christmas creativity. This year you can look forward to both traditional and vintage style projects and kits... each day we make something new to share to share with you.

Our Vintage Spool Ornament Kits are being assembled as I write this blog. Oh my sweetness! They are filled with such vintage charm that you will find yourself falling in love with them over and over again... sometimes I like to just hold them in my hand. Have you noticed that adding glitter makes everything feel [a lot] more special? Hope this tutorial we created below will give you a starting place for your holiday paper crafting ornaments.

Vintage Spool Tutorial:

Gather your supplies: antiqued wooden spool in your favorite size, 1/4" strip of your favorite sheet of music (include printed notes), dictionary or printed paper, distressing ink or spray, 2 coordinating buttons that fit within the spool end, 8" coordinating bakers twine, 5mm red pom pom, 2 small textured cardstock holly leaves, hot glue gun and favorite white glue [2] Age the paper strip [3] Wrap the paper strip around the spool, securing both ends with a small dab of white craft glue [4] Thread baker's twine through the two holes of one button and pull both strings through bottom end of spool [5] Thread one of the bakers twine threads through two holes on the button as shown. Tie ends of twine together & trim [6] Pull knot in the bakers twine into the center of the spool as shown [7] Pull the bakers twine on the top button evenly up and secure buttons with a small dab of hot glue to the spool as shown [8] Add a small, neat dab of hot glue and arrange the holly leaves as shown. Secure the pom pom with white glue. Add silver Stickles to the rim edge of the spool and let dry.

crumpled leaf banner

Hi friends-
We are loving fall... the colors, the cooler air, the feeling of thankfulness this month brings! Nothing feels ‘fallish’ like leaves, especially crumpled ones in beautiful falls colors. We cut our leaves from American Crafts cardstock to a 6" size, crumpled them and then randomly sewed them together with brown thread in a zig zag stitch. Short on time? Hi Friends,
It's November 1st today. Unbelievable. It feels like only yesterday when the days were getting warmer and summer was just beginning. With today's storm, the leaves are once again scattering through the streets. It feels like fall... warm sweater weather with a bowl of hot soup.

We just got through creating our November 2011 Visiting Teaching Teaching message for our LDS customers. This month is a "you pick". We chose President Uchtdorf's talk about the forget-me- not flower. I have read it several times and find great comfort in it. We packed the message with a couple of chocolates into a kraft pillow box and added a doily, rhinestone forget me not flower and tulle bow... a beautiful treat your sisters are sure to love. Please note: We have many customers that place their orders together and save on postage.

Tulle Pom Pom Wand Tutorial

A delightfully easy project that adds the "princess touch" to any princess party, wedding, dress up, and girl time celebrations...

Supplies Needed:
3 yards of 3" netting (cut a 6" spool in half)
Fish line
1 yard of your favorite flowing ribbon
Scissors
Hot glue gun
12" wood skewer

Step 1:
The easiest way to cut the 6" netting in half is to lay in straight and flat on a table and cut evenly down the center.

Step 2:
Beginning at one end, scrunch the netting into folds. Make sure the keep the edges as even as possible.

Step 3:
Cut a 12" piece of fish line and tie several knots tightly around the center. This step is easier with two people - the tighter the knot, the better! Fluff your pom pom until it is nice and full. Cut the fish line short and also trim and strangling pieces of netting.

[steps 1-3]

Step 4:
Place a dab of hot glue on the tip of the skewer and insert into the center of the pom pom. Hold tightly together until glue cools.

Step 5:
Tie the ribbon into a loose bow and pull loops away from the center. Add a dab of hot glue to the top center of the knot and place towards the top of the skewer, by the netting. Be sure to adhere the ribbon to the skewer and not the netting for the best adhesion.

Step 6:
Fluff the tulle ball until it is like top image shown.

Paper Blossom Bouquet Tutorial

Supplies Needed:
Printed cardstock-weight paper
Green wrapped wires
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Stapler
White vase

Step 1:
Cut out 2 of each size flower: 2½”, 3”, 3½”

Step 2:
Carefully pull the cardstock weight printed paper apart to create two thinner sheets. Start by pulling two petals apart toward the center and then peel the rest off in one slow movement. This technique helps create a more real looking blossom.

Step 3:
Fold the petals in half and staple together as shown. Fold one of the 2½” petals into fourths and staple as shown.

Step 4:
Crinkle the petals in your hand.

Step 5:
Carefully open up the petals.

[steps 1-5]

Step 6:
Set aside one 3½” petal for later. Adhere the remaining 3½” petals together using hot glue, ending with the smallest triangle petal on top. Press together firmly.

Step 7:
Bend the ½” end of your green wire into a ninety degree angle. Poke the remaining 3½” petal in the center from behind with the angled green wire.

Step 8:
Adhere the bent ½” portion of the green wire flat onto the back of the stack of petals using hot glue. Make sure the green wire stays perpendicular to the flower to act as a stem. Thread the remaining 3½” petal onto the back of the flower to secure and hide the green wire. Hold securely until hot glue is firm.

Step 9:
Your blossom will look flat and crushed, but no worries…

[steps 6-9]

Step 10:
Begin to pull the petals toward the center and your blossom will be perfect! Cut the wire to the appropriate length for your vase.

Optional:
You can skip the wire steps if you would like your blossom to be used without a wire. In this case, just glue the remaining petal onto the back like the others. You can also add Stickles or glitter to the edges and a rhinestone in the center if you wish for extra sparkle.

Making a Family Recipe Book

How many times have you told yourself you are going to type up those delicious recipes your family loves? You're probably saying you don't have the time, right? Well, I'm here to show you how cute it can be and how much you will cherish this easy project. ALSO, it can be duplicated almost instantly!! So stop saying you're going to do it and do it! It is such a perfect gift idea for:

- Newlyweds (who don't know how to cook and NEED those recipes)
- Nieces/Nephews/Your children (maybe just leaving home for the first time and won't have Mommy to cook for them)
- Grandmother's (Christmas, Her Birthday, Mother's Day, no reason at all - come on! She'll love it!)
- Neighborhood/Girlfriend recipe swap (each neighbor creates 1 page with their favorite recipe and story about why it is so special to them)

What makes this project so easy is that you have the option to simply type the recipes out in Word, add picture of your family with the yummy dish or a family member making the dish, print and slide it in a sheet protector!

Our favorite thing is to add is a significant story about what makes this dish special. Why do you like it? Where did you learn how to make it? Who loves/hates it in your family? Was there a special holiday that this dish was reserved for?

So much about this project will be loved and cherished by everyone who uses it!

The Perfect Celebration Bow

Bows are the perfect toppers for all of your gift packages and treat containers! They can turn an ordinary gift into a thoughtful treasure! These instructions are for the thicker, cardstock-weight, printed paper. However, the pattern can be easily adapted for thinner-weight paper or gift wrap (measurements for thinner-weight paper are found within the instructions). This bow is made even more special because you can pick and choose your favorite printed paper, creating a one-of-a-kind bow!

Supplies Needed:
Favorite sheet of printed paper
Paper cutter
Stapler
Hot glue gun
Double stick tape

Step 1
Cardstock-weight bows
- Cut 3/4" strips in the following lengths: 3 - 9"; 2 - 8"; 1 - 3"

Thinner-weight bows
- Cut 3/4" strips in the following lengths: 3 - 9"; 3 - 8"; 3 - 7"; 1 - 3"

Step 2
Starting with the longest strips, twist each side and fold it back towards the center front, as shown. Staple both ends securely together in the center (or you can use a hot glue gun). Use double stick tape for the 3" center strip and simply bring the ends together to create a circle.

Step 3
Not it is time to assemble the bow! Layer your first three larger pieces evenly in a circle, placing a dab of hot glue between each layer. Begin to layer the next size evenly, ending with the center little circle in the middle.

Step 4
Now you have a beautiful bow that just needs to be placed on a very special gift or treat!

Pinwheel Tutorial

Need a fun accent for your upcoming summer parties? Or maybe something a little extra on that card or page you are working on? Pinwheels are the perfect way to add whimsy and that summertime feel to any project you are working on! I taught my niece how to make these the other day and now they are decorating her entire room!!

Supplies needed:
12 x 12 patterned paper (makes 4 pinwheels)
clear plastic tubes
Buttons or brads

1. Cut your favorite sheet of 12 x 12 cardstock into 4 - 6 x 6 pieces.
2. Cut halfway from each corner to the center of each 6 x 6 square.

3. Place a dab of hot glue in the center and bring in the same outside edge corner to the center. Add more hot glue as needed. Press down until the glue hardens, using the tip of a pencil so you don't burn yourself.
(*optional* You could also punch holes on the same outside edge corners that you bring into the center and attach them with a brad instead of glue. This would allow the pinwheel to actually spin in the wind)

4. Add another small dab of hot glue to the center and firmly press a coordinating button in the center.

5. Hot glue the pinwheel to our 1/2 x 12 clear tubes filled with coordinating colors of candy.
6. Celebrate summer!!!

If you would like to make smaller pinwheels to attach to our striped paper drinking straws, the size of your squares can be 4x4 for a proportional pinwheel. Follow the rest of the directions as listed above.

Magical Princess Wand Tutorial

Every girl, sometime in her life dreams of being a princess. This princess wand is perfect for encouraging those dreamy imaginations! Perfect for parties or just playtime and dress up!

1. With a pencil, lightly trace the spiral pattern onto cardstock or printed paper. Cut out.

2. Begin rolling up the spiral, beginning at the outside edge, making sure the first center rolls are extra tight. This will be the center of your flower. Keep rolling until you are at the end of your spiral.

3. Let go of your flower and let it loosen up. Place a small dab of hot glue on bottom of spiral and set the rose down on table, placing your finger on top of flower to press securely down as it dries. Be careful not to burn yourself! Fold leaves in half to create crease and open up.

4. Place all ribbon neatly together and tie securely 1” from the top of the wand with a half knot. Keep in place with a couple dabs of hot glue near the knot. Glue flowers onto wand as shown. Add leaves after. Add a little princess sparkle by placing ‘Crystal’ Stickles to the edges of the roses. (Or use Mono-Adhesive glue and white or clear glitter)

How to: Canning Lids Frame Magnet

This little project will be perfect for a Girl's Camp craft, best friend gift, girls birthday party craft, summer activity, etc. I could probably go on for days! Basically, I'm saying you need to make these RIGHT NOW!! They are so cute and personal.

Supplies Needed:
- Canning jar lids & rings
- Spray paint in your favorite colors
- E6000 adhesive
- Tombo Mono liquid adhesive
- 3D Crystal Lacquer or Diamond Glaze
- Strong Neodymium magnets
- Favorite photos
- Scissors
- Permanent Marker

Step 1: Spray paint the canning lids on both sides. (Tip: spray the lids inside a cardboard box to catch any over spray) Set aside to dry.

Step 2: Glue the lid onto the ring to create a good seal.

Step 3: Using the lid as a template, trace the shape onto a photo and cut out. Add glue to the lid and place photo on top. Set aside to dry.

Step 4: Add any embellishment and stickers you would like. (Magazine letters add some fun and inexpensive character!) Fill in the lid area with a light layer of 3D Crystal Lacquer or Diamond Glaze. Cover the entire area and DO NOT shake the bottle before applying as this will create more air bubbles. If you do have any air bubbles, remove any air bubbles with a pin. Set aside to dry until it dries clear. Add ribbon and embellishments, if desired.

Step 5: Glue a strong neodymium magnet to the back with a dab of E6000. Allow to dry for 24 hours before using.

These are probably my *most* favorite Valentine treat containers ever. Adorable right?? Maybe I'll try and concoct a little love potion for these sweet little candy tubes. I think my husband's recipe will include those new mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Have you seen the commercial for those?! They're so small and cute, I don't feel bad about eating as many as I plan to over the next few days! They're the size of a dime!

Need a super cute idea for Valentine's Day? Here at Pebbles, our superstar employee Amy (who does a little of everything and is good at all of it) and I made these adorable little books for our husbands! I'll just be showcasing her's today since for one, mine is no where near as cute, and two, it's just not done. We'll give you a little snack of what is to come when we finish them.

The book, closed, is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. Each page folded in half is half of an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of cardstock. We cut the inside pages down just a bit so the book would close nicely and also added some fun little extras to make it more entertaining and interactive for our guys. We all know they get distracted easily! :) We used Bakers Twine to hand stitch the binding. We thought about just sewing it but there were too many pages for the sewing machine needle to stitch through. Hand stitching was super easy (even though I broke one of Amy's needles!)

We will be filling the pages with fun little love notes, maybe a few love coupons, and pictures! Amy is going to set up a little photobooth at her home this weekend and make her husband take fun prop pictures with her. Don't you kind of want to be her?? She comes up with the best ideas!

I left for downtown LA for the Craft & Hobby Show... the perfect place to go shopping for the latest fun crafty things to fill our shop with! Busy from the time I wake up until I fall asleep. I helped set up the booth for Pebbles Inc. and then I will be shopping for 3.5 days for Pebbles in my Pocket... In simplifying and focusing on the Orem store & website, I feel like I am a brand new buyer that has so much to see and learn. I gather a lot and feel overwhelmed, but I'm excited too. Heart Flower Bouquet

Today I woke up thinking I would start an exercise program and instead made a bouquet of hearts. I guess I got side tracked... I easily do. Oh! Heart be still when you make this endearing flower bouquet... I like how these petals seem to flutter! I think flowers are quickly becoming my new 'favorite' to create and I'm just getting started. I still need to make time for exercising though.

There is nothing quite like a good haircut is there? People grow their hair out to cut it off or cut it off only to grow it out again... go figure! my daughter Abby LOVES it and can now donate 10+ inches to Locks of Love to go towards making wigs for sick children... a very good cause for any of you with long hair. We walked through the neighborhood on our way home and I just mentioned that it felt good to exercise. She laughed kindly and told me that this was called living an 'active lifestyle', it certainly could not be called exercising! I have promised to be her exercise partner and I think she looks beautiful!!!

December 19: One Special Book a Year

Christmas Eve brings each child a special book and Christmas pajamas, followed by reading the Christmas story from the Bible. We keep it pretty simple and share a good meal and time together. It is my favorite time of Christmas. Both my husband and I write each child a special message in their book. Sooner then we think, the books they are given will one day be used for their future families. I like the feeling of being a part of a good book that is passed down and enjoyed long after we are gone. Sometimes, it isn't a Christmas book... but a favorite book like The Giving Tree or You are Special. We love our books!

I found this idea of Kim's to be priceless... time spent in little memories each day throughout the Christmas Season. Many times we wait for the big moments, but it's the little ones that we remember throughout our lives. Years ago, during the holidays, I made my usual list of to do's and worked my way through them, not really fully enjoying them, but getting them over with, so I could check them off. I thought once I was done, I could enjoy the holidays. The only thing was, I missed out on the holiday spirit throughout the season... A valuable lesson I learned about keeping the spirit with me throughout the season... even during the busy times!

Hmmm.... what to do with the Christmas cards we all get? I have a hard time throwing many away and have started to make a memory garland out of them. I punched them with a 2" circle punch and easily sewed through them back to back on my sewing machine with white thread. We saved special pictures, signatures & thoughts and pretty card designs that we will treasure more through the years as we add to it. December 11: Pomegranate 7up

I have NEVER EVER liked soda pop. Never until today when I took a sip of my daughters freshly poured Pomegranate 7up over ice. Then I took another... and another, then poured myself my own, much to her delight. It is amazingly better than good. I have always equated regular 7up with the flu, that's when we buy it... but this beautiful red pop is magical. It will easily take the place of non-alcoholic sparkling soda we sometimes buy for special occasions. Stock up now! I believe they will only sell it through the wintertime.

December 10: Bakers Twine

I have been using Bakers Twine for nearly all of my paper projects and wrappings... most especially the red during the holidays. We carry them by the spool or the yard at Pebbles, in 16 perfect colors. Collect one, soon you will want them all... treat yourself :)

Honestly... how could these not be on my favorites list? White or chocolate dipped mint Oreos are already yummily tasty... but add so cutely & easily decorated and they are meant to be shared with everyone on your list. Make plenty!

December 7: A Night in Bethlehem

'Life Changing' is what I have heard about this Christmas program and we are very much looking forward to going this year. Perfect for our families and a much needed lift knowing that He is the reason for everything. If you live in my area, try to make arrangements to come. If you live in another area, try finding a special Christmas program near you...

Here are the details:
Night in Bethlehem is a Christmas experience unlike any other. As a participant, you come dressed in time-period costumes, and enter a tent which re-creates what the city of Bethlehem might have been like. You will have the opportunity to "pay" your taxes, interact with merchants, and sample simple foods. You will hear what the people of Bethlehem might have been saying that special night so long ago. You will see the inn, and watch the sweet young couple, desperate for accommodations, be turned away. You will share the innkeeper's concern, as he directs Joseph and Mary to a nearby stable, where they may find shelter, warmth, and privacy. You will see the shepherds, and experience the joy they did, as everyone witnesses the appearance of a heavenly messenger, bearing the wonderful news that Christ the Savior is born. Lastly, you will see Mary and Joseph and the newborn babe in the stable, witness the gifts of the wise men, and feel the true reason for Christmas, in a way you never have before.

December 5: Christmas Cookies

Tonight, Ashlee & Abby made their Dad's favorite cookie. As long as they have a lot of frosting on them or a bowl nearby to double dip them in, he is a pretty happy guy. My sister Becky's recipe is our long time favorite with sour cream cream and almond extract. Sooo yummy! The only thing that would make them better, would be to have Becky here to bake them with us. We are keeping Christmas extra simple this year and are focusing instead on just spending time with each other.

I would have to admit that this is my favorite die cut shape we have ever created. Ever. A simple tree that feels Christmas special. This tree will magically rest on each plate during the Christmas season. We added a magically dusting of white glitter to the star. Folds quickly & easily and securely closes with adhesive. You will fall in love with this little tree!

Dear Friends-
Sorry. I just couldn't make it happen. I love the countdown idea for Pebbles, but with my daughter Lindsey's wedding and then I was so blessed to enjoy my sister Becky for 10 days, I just couldn't do it all. A good lesson for all of us. We can't do or have it all. I use to think we could, but get real, it doesn't begin to be possible, at least not in my world. I do take a look at some of my favorite blogs and find myself wondering how they seem to keep their lives so balance when mine has constant starts and stops. I guess the magic word here is "seem". I think I am in a bit of a funk today, maybe because it is freezing cold outside and I am wearing thin socks. Maybe it is because it's Monday and I so desperately want to be bundled up in a warm blanket on a soft couch until spring or until I wake up on my own without an alarm clock. Sounds good doesn't it?
Hope your day is going good... the day after a funky day is usually better :)

Here is my November 29 Idea:
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE these. EVERYONE knows how hard it is to find the perfect gift for the people you love. Turkey Nut Cups are so fun and easy to make. Each person can write down their favorite things they are thankful for on the feathers. November 10: Thankful Tree Leaves

My first favorite idea are the thankful tree leaves that are perfect for a centerpiece on your table. Write your name on one side of the leaf and what you are grateful for on the other side. Hang with natural twine on a tree branch... I pruned my daughter Ashlee's tree and secured the branches in a jar with little pebbles.
